ABOUT APRR

Freedom, safety and local service

APRR is a motorway concession operator. We have been financing, building, maintaining and modernising infrastructures entrusted to us by the French State for more than 50 years: the APRR and AREA road networks. Our goal and our duty is to ensure smooth, safe travel for all.

Day in, day out, we serve our clientèle of regular and occasional motorists, haulage contractors and transport professionals. To keep their travel experience as fresh as possible, we offer a wide range of services including modern rest and service areas, as well as time-saving electronic toll collection. The APRR group’s 3,500 employees anticipate customers’ needs and develop projects to tackle emerging mobility challenges, including reducing our carbon footprint and facilitating intermodal transport and ecomobility.

OVERVIEW

APRR - together with its Rhônes-Alpes subsidiary AREA - manages motorways and toll structures under concessions awarded by the French State. Under the terms of the concession agreements, APRR invests heavily along its 2,323 km network, collecting toll payments in return. The aim is to provide efficient transport infrastructures and assist customers at every stage of their journey, ensuring that traffic flows smoothly and safely while keeping motorists informed and comfortable.

A VIRTUOUS CONCESSION MODEL

The motorway concession model, whereby the French State contracts public or private-sector partners to manage the network, originated in legislation passed on 18 April 1955. Within this framework, multi-year planning contracts are agreed between the State and concession holders, setting out the respective commitments of the parties.
Through this concession model, France has built a high quality nationwide network at a substantial saving to the state, as the network is funded by users rather than taxpayers.
