Autoroute INFO plays a key role in enhancing motorway safety, service quality and traffic flow, and acts as a “navigator” for motorists. In many ways, it is a general-interest station, with more than half of broadcast time given over to talk and a varied range of useful programmes.

Safety - the top priority for Autoroute INFO

Priority is given to real-time traffic news
  • In the event of a problem on the motorway (e.g. a tailback, breakdown or accident), users need to be informed as quickly as possible so that the situation can be kept from worsening or an additional accident prevented. This is where Autoroute INFO comes in, providing network users with reliable traffic information in real time.
  • This service is built on a close partnership with the motorway operators, and notably with the traffic control units, which have an overview of the situation across the networks. Autoroute INFO is kept up to date on traffic conditions at all times. It is informed of events in real time, and serves as the key channel for the transmission of traffic information. There are scheduled traffic updates every 15 minutes round the clock, and normal programmes can be interrupted within two minutes to broadcast special news flashes for drivers. Depending on the impact and duration of events, a journalist may also be sent to the scene to provide detailed live updates of progress.

2,500 km of motorway covered

A single radio station for four networks
  • With a reception zone that extends beyond the 2,500 km of motorway, Autoroute INFO is currently France’s second most popular motorway radio station.
  • It is also the only such station broadcasting across four networks. In addition to APRR, it now covers all of the Alpine motorways – AREA, ATMB (since 1995) and SFTRF, including the Fréjus tunnel.
  • To ensure full coverage, Autoroute INFO has more than 200 booster stations, i.e. an average of one every 7 km or so.

Special service during peak holiday traffic

  • Autoroute INFO, which focuses on live broadcasting and real-time updates, tailors its traffic-information service to take motorway use levels into account.
  • Weekdays outside of holiday periods (GREEN mode): local cutaway slots for traffic updates, for optimal pertinence.
  • On the busiest days, and notably during the summer and winter holidays (RED mode): information for the 2,500 km of motorway is centralised to give listeners travelling long distances an overview of traffic conditions over their entire route. During these periods, there is greater focus on news from the ground, with Autoroute INFO journalists reporting live from traffic control units and rest areas.
