APRR

Human and technical resources are used round-the-clock to ensure that traffic continues to flow smoothly with optimal levels of safety and comfort.

APRR has designed a motorway operations and management network or REGA (Réseau pour l’Exploitation et la Gestion des Autoroutes) in order to have real-time information concerning traffic levels in any part of the network and any problems that may arise.

REGA, which makes efficient use of human resources and of automated sensors providing information remotely, is now an essential decision aid that:

  • Enables management of events, whether scheduled (works and maintenance) or unforeseen
  • Facilitates essential coordination between the services of a given département (e.g. infrastructure, police and other management entities), region or set of regions;

Optimised traffic management requires that information, whatever its origin, be centralised and processed, and that a reactive organisation encompassing all of the network-operation players be put in place. The central command and control complex at the heart of the APRR network in Dijon-Saint-Apollinaire provides all of these services by bringing the operational control unit, the main Autoroute Info studio, the telephone information centre and the networks & telecommunications control unit together on the same site.

AREA

Since 2006, AREA – which is at the heart of the traffic-management system – has had an all-new control unit. This faster, more ergonomic and more “intelligent” version is at the cutting edge of technology, and offers the most efficient traffic-management tools available.

Faster, easier management of events, with the integration of an operations support system that automatically provides operators with a suggested series of actions for each type of event, taking account of such parameters as location and available equipment.

Greater sharing of information: with the creation of an intranet, the AREA teams have real-time access to the information collected by CESAR. Transmission to outside partners is also faster and easier, thanks to an information-exchange gateway.

A reconfigured archiving system for easier data processing and more sophisticated statistics.

More ergonomic workstations: the main room of the command unit has been fully refurbished, with upgraded workstations, a new multi-screen display, individual lighting and better thermal insulation and soundproofing.
